Reviews of Genesis: Christ, Creation & Covenant

Pastor Joseph C. Morecraft III has written an excellent comprehensive commentary on Genesis which is both expository and practical. The ebook edition has an interactive detailed Table of Contents, so a reader can ‘jump in’ to a particular passage. If you are tired of commentaries telling you that the text does not really mean what it says-- then this is the commentary for you. Genesis is rightly presupposed to be the inerrant Word of God. Pastor Morecraft shows us that Genesis is foundational to our Christian faith. Unified by the ever more comprehensive Covenant of Grace as revealed to Adam, Noah, and Abraham; the Messianic line of descent is in focus. In addition to the complete exposition of Genesis, there are several Appendices applying the truths of Genesis to our 21st century issues, reflecting the author’s pastoral concern.

Genesis is exposited and defended intellectually and scientifically with many references to the best of past and current expositors.

Christ is the central figure throughout, from creation to the long sojourn of the covenant family in Egypt. Through it all, the gospel of salvation through Christ shines. As Jesus reminds us in the New Testament: “Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” “Before Abraham was, I AM.” [John 8:56.58] And the apostolic testimony “Abraham believed God and it was counted to him for righteousness.” [Romans 4:3]

I am happy to recommend this commentary; it is exegetically sound and relevant. Even the most complex issues are well presented in language every Christian can understand.

1 Corinthians 15:23-26 - “But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death.”
