Everyone has a God & Everyone worships.
Let’s start with what for many will be an outrageous statement, “Everyone has a God”. For everyone, but Christians they have a god, lower case “g”, aka an idol. Muslims have a god, Buddhists have a god(s), Hindus have a god(s), atheists have a god, etc.
Atheists have a god? Sure. They see him in the mirror or in “humanity”. Their god is man in either a micro or macro sense.
How can you tell what a person’s God is? Look where they get their laws (or where they get their ethics or morality, from which they legislate). What’s true of society is true of individuals who make up that society or culture.

Before you get all huffy about such a statement, stop and think about it a moment. Law is about authority. Authority is by definition above or over someone. Whatever you recognize as having authority over you, bosses at work, parents over children, civil magistrates / authorities, etc. Law is legislated morality. Yes, you can legislate morality. Legislation, laws are definitions around a morality. Who defines that morality, hence laws, is the ultimate authority, hence your God. Where you go to get your laws then, is your God. Simple enough, really.
So everyone has a God, consequently a religion and hence worships in some form or other. Every religion has forms of worship informed by the religious authority of their god. Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, satanism, etc. or man. Hedonism, the pursuit of pleasure; sensual self-indulgence, is worship of self, the person you see in the mirror. Hedonism is increasingly the religion of American culture.
What is the standard you have for where you get your laws? Wherever that is, there’s your God. Even professing Christians in America fall into idolatry in looking to the state, often citing rulings of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) as their standard. That’s how you get supposed Christians indicating that abortion is “legal”. Says who? The SCOTUS? The only God who is, says it is murder, therefore IT IS Murder.
I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides Me there is no God. I will gird you, though you have not known Me; that men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun that there is no one besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other, the One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these.
Isaiah 45:5-7
The only God who is has given us His perfect law. He is the ultimate authority and His law is the standard by which all is to be legislated, judged and punished. He’s not only indicated that He alone is to be worshipped, but how He is to be worshipped.
We’ve published “How God Wants Us to Worship Him”, by Joe Morecraft. Certainly, I’d recommend you get and read this book to see what God demands of His true people. Additionally, I’d recommend a book by Scott Alan Buss (FireBreathingChristian.com), “There Is No ‘God-Given Right’ To Worship False Gods”, because, as detailed above, there is no neutrality in religion. Everyone has a God, everyone has a religion and everyone worships. There is only one true God, there is only one true religion and only His commanded way to worship Him.
Consider this the next time someone spouts, “separation of church and state” nonsense at you. They may be trying to claim that neutrality is possible. It isn’t. They are stating that the State is god, plain and simple. The State will determine laws as the ultimate authority. The State will determine how you will worship in its schools. You will bow down to man and his standard of morality determined by… what? Majority, mob rule as in democracy? Welcome to the tyranny of the majority of men and their whims so easily swayed by demagogues, social media, man’s ongoing rebellion against God’s law for the pursuit of their own chosen hedonism.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.
Isaiah 53:6
Doesn’t the first reference in 2 Timothy sound like modern America? Man loves to tickle his own ears in his self-loving conceit. A male says, “I’m actually a woman”, or a “furry” or whatever he wants to establish under the nonsense nomenclature, gender. Gender is a linguistic term, not a biological one.
How about, “We came from apes, which came from amphibians, which came from fish, which came from single-celled life forms, which came from some accident, which was a result of some big bang where everything spontaneously erupted from nothing". Everything is then meaningless and completely cause and effect with a “magical” first cause and with no free will. Everything is predetermined by accidental interaction of randomly flung particles sprung from nothing and heading back to nothing, so everything means nothing. Hopelessness.
Fortunately, none of that is true. Everything sprung from the only God who is. He is The Authority, The Government. He sets the laws. He has provided hope for our lost condition as we read in the second reference in Isaiah. He planned from eternity past that He would send His Son to pay the penalty for our idolatry and every other sin for His chosen people.
And you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
Matthew 1:21
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people.
Luke 1:68
He chooses? Yep. Again there is no neutrality. There is predetermination. Everyone believes this is true. Everyone believes in absolutes. Every evolutionary scientist believes absolutes exist or they’d have no basis to test experiments expecting repeatability. Otherwise hot water and salt mixed today get you saline solution, but tomorrow could yield a black hole.
If your god is not the only God who is, then I implore you to hit your knees, repent of your sins, turn to Jesus Christ as your God, Prophet, Priest and King. Then get up, find a church that preaches the Bible as the only authority for all of life. If you don’t know how to do that, contact me and I’ll try to help you identify one in your area.
If your God is the only God who is, consider where you are currently going to get the standard for all of life. Is it the triune God of the Bible? Is His Word alone the basis of your faith and practice? Is His Word alone where you go to evaluate law and justice? If not, hit your knees, repent of your sins, turn to Jesus Christ as your God, Prophet, Priest and King. Then get up, open His Word and start reading it, studying it, all of it, from Genesis to The Revelation of Jesus Christ. Immerse yourself in what God commands and promises. Read God-owned books like those mentioned above or those mentioned in these videos recommending books on the Holy Spirit and Systematic Theology, written by Biblically steeped Christians.
